Library Membership Card

Pennsauken Library cards are available free of charge to anyone who lives or owns a business in Pennsauken. Pennsauken public school teachers (pre-K to high school) are also eligible for free cards.

Pennsauken residents' library cards expire October 31st of every year. At that time, identification will be requested that verifies your Pennsauken address A minor's card must be renewed with parental identification. Please keep your expired card; the renewal process only involves updating the Library's computer with any address or phone number changes

Out-of-town membership cards are available for $45/year. Out-of-town members' cards expire one year from date of application. Cards need to be renewed with valid identification.

Cards must be up to date and in good standing to borrow materials or access computers. New cards will be mailed directly to your home. Please allow seven (7) business days for receipt. You will not be able to check out materials until you have received your card through the mail. However, your ID can be shown at the Reference Desk to access Library computers immediately.

Acceptable identification & Proof of residency

  • Valid New Jersey driver's license
  • Valid New Jersey car insurance card or car registration*
  • Valid New Jersey ID with expiration date
  • Current-no more than 3 months old-utility bill(must be addressed to person applying for card)*
  • Pennsauken property deed*
  • Current mortgage statement or lease (must be addressed to person applying for card)*
  • Current Property Tax bill*

    *These proofs of residency must be accompanied by a government issued photo ID.

Most library items may be renewed twice, as long as there are no reserves waiting for that item or unless specified. Items may be renewed over the telephone during regular hours or online at any time.

    Exceptions:

  • Musem Passes(nonrenewable)
  • Non-Fiction videos and multi disc sets (renewable once)
  • eBooks and eAudiobooks (renewable once)

Please do not allow young children to renew by phone or online. Library materials must be returned to the Library during regular Library hours only.

Lost library cards need to be reported immediately. Patron is responsible for all materials borrowed on said card until it is reported lost or stolen. Replacement fee is $4 per card.

Loan periods

  • Books, CDs, Audio books: two (2)weeks
  • eBooks and eAudiobooks: one(1) or two (2) weeks (patron sets preference in OverDrive)
  • Museum Pass: four (4) days
  • Non-fiction videos/DVDs and multi-disc DVD sets: six (6) days
  • Entertainment Videos/DVDs: two (2) days

Item limits (per checkout)

  • Eight (8) adult new books
  • Three (3) non-fiction books per call number (first three (3) numbers on spine label of the book)
  • Seven (7) videos/DVDs per family from our Pennsauken Library Collection
  • Ten (10) CDs
  • Five (5) magazines
  • One (1) Museum pass (after return of prior pass)
  • Eight (8) ebooks or eAudiobooks may be downloaded concurrently

Late fees

  • Videos/DVDs: $1 per item, per day
  • Books, CDs, Audio books: 15¢ per item, per day
  • Inter-library loan items (ILL's): Patron library card will be charged $1.00 for any ILL item not picked up within three (3) days of notice.
  • Museum Pass: $5.00 per day. See Museum Pass FAQs for additional charges.

Borrowing privileges and computer access are suspended on cards having a fine balance of $4.95 or more. This also applies to the parent/guardian who has signed for a minor child AND all children for whom that parent/guardian has signed.

Upon payment for a lost book, media resource or museum pass, any fines accrued for that item will be forgiven except for any court costs incurred which must be paid before library privileges can be resumed.

Online Resources Card

Non-resident patrons have the option of purchasing an ONLINE RESOURCES card for $10/year. Card must be purchased at the Circulation Desk with proof of identification (government issued photo ID acceptable). This card will expire one year from the date of purchase.

An Online Resources card allows a holder to check into the Library's resources directly at the Reference Desk as well as access to the library's web offerings from home or via smartphone or tablet. Patrons may check out eBooks and eAudiobooks from the Audiobook and eBook Download Center, and receive access to all subscription databases purchased by the library and offered through the library webpage.
